Big windows
on a
tiny budget
We catch up with moises soriano, manager of cotswolds dogs & cats home charity shop in cirencester.
with a miniscule budget, moises shows us what he can do to add sparkle to the storefront.

What advice would you give you an independent shop with not
much budget?
To definitely not be afraid of being creative with their imagination and recycle the resources at hand. There are thousands of recycling things that could have an amazing visual effect.
Where do you get your ideas from to dress the windows?
I believe I have always been gifted with creativity since I was a young boy. I remember my sister telling me as a child, that I have an ability to just throw something like a fabric in the air and that how it landed was in an artistic piece. When I grew up in the 80's there was a lot of artistic influence all around me New Romantic movement and the New Wave in fashion. I started to create my own clothes, customising clothes from the flee markets. So I would say I get my ideas from my experience in life, fashion and with all the things I always loved: music films, designers.....but there's a lot of me in all my work.
Have you found that it makes a difference to your business?
In my current work at the charity shop, my window displays are focus to mark a difference with the others charity shops...so my work is extended to the shop floor, It is very nice when costumers come to give compliments about the window display or when they visit our shop a let me know that is their favourite charity shop.
What window displays (and it can be anywhere in the world)
do you love and why?
I used to love Harrod's in London as it is one of my best window displays at the time in the past, but I think Selfridges has taking the first place for me now. Also for window display lovers, a walk in New Bond Street is a must!
What three pieces of advice would you give someone looking
to put a window display together but doesn’t really know
where to begin?
The first for me is to have an idea what it is that they are feeling and what they want to give. I always start with an abstract idea of a theme
The second is to get as much information as you can about the theme for your display, colours and shape must to be able to make people identify what is about.
And last, always be daring.
