California State Employee Holidays 2026

Alright, folks, let's talk turkey. Or should I say, let's talk holidays. You know, those magical days when the alarm clock takes a vacation, and you can sleep in without feeling guilty? New Year's Day - January 1, 2026

Kickstarting the year with a bang, or rather, a day off. Picture this: you're nursing your New Year's Eve hangover (or is it just the tryptophan from all that turkey?), and suddenly, you remember - no work today! It's like finding a $20 bill in your coat pocket from last winter. Unexpected joy!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day - January 18, 2026

MLK Day is like that one friend who always shows up with snacks when you're having a movie marathon. You're not expecting them, but when they do, it's a delightful surprise. So, grab your popcorn (or in this case, a day off), and let's celebrate!

President's Day - February 16, 2026

Presidents' Day is like that relative who visits once a year and brings the best stories. Only, this time, the story is about you not having to work. Lincoln and Washington would be proud, I'm sure.

César Chávez Day - March 31, 2026

César Chávez Day is like that co-worker who always takes one for the team. You know, the one who volunteers to bring in donuts on Fridays? Well, this day is like the ultimate donut day for California state employees. Thanks, César!

Memorial Day - May 25, 2026

Memorial Day is like that long weekend getaway you've been planning all year. You know, the one where you finally get to use those vacation days you've been hoarding. So, pack your bags (metaphorically speaking), and let's make some memories!

Labor Day is like that back-to-school shopping trip where you get to buy new notebooks and pencils. Only, instead of school supplies, you're stocking up on rest and relaxation. Who said growing up has to be boring?

Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples' Day - October 12, 2026

This one's a bit of a toss-up, depending on where you live in California. But no matter which side of the fence you're on, it's still a day off. It's like choosing between chocolate or vanilla ice cream - either way, you're getting dessert!
