How Did The Denver Broncos Get Their Name

So, you're wondering how the Denver Broncos got their name, huh? Well, buckle up, 'cause we're about to dive into a tale that's as wild as a horse running free on the open plains. Grab a snack, get comfy, and let's take a little trip back in time.

It All Started with a Contest

Alright, picture this: it's the late 1950s, and the American Football League (AFL) is gearing up to expand. Denver's in the running to get a new team, and the city's all abuzz with excitement. But first, they need a name. So, what do they do? They throw it out to the public, of course!

Yep, that's right. The Denver Post newspaper launched a naming contest, and the people of Denver were invited to submit their suggestions. Now, can you imagine the chaos that must've been? It's like when you're trying to decide on a movie to watch with your friends, but everyone wants something different. Multiply that by a thousand, and you've got the Broncos' naming contest.

Broncos, Broncos, Broncos

Anyway, among all the suggestions - and there were a lot, let me tell you - one name kept popping up like a football in a game of hot potato. You guessed it: Broncos. But why? Well, let's take a little detour to find out.

Why Broncos, Though?

Alright, so you might be thinking, "Broncos? Really? That's a bit... unusual for a sports team, isn't it?" And you're not wrong. But stick with me, 'cause this is where it gets interesting.

See, Denver's got a bit of a wild side. It's a city that loves its nature, its outdoors, its... well, its wild side. And what's more wild than a bronco? Those untamed horses that are as free and fierce as the Rocky Mountains themselves. It's like they're saying, "Hey, we might be a city, but we're not afraid to get a little rough and tumble out there on the field."

Plus, think about it. When you hear "Broncos," don't you just feel like you're in for a good time? Like you're about to watch something powerful, something exciting, something... well, something wild? That's exactly what the people of Denver were going for, and it worked.

And the Winner Is...

So, after all the votes were in and the dust had settled, the Denver Broncos was the clear winner. The people had spoken, and the AFL listened. And thus, the Denver Broncos were born.

But here's where it gets even cooler. You know how sometimes, when you name something, it starts to take on that name's personality? Like how a dog might seem more friendly if you name it something like "Buddy" instead of "Cerberus"? Well, that's exactly what happened with the Broncos.

Broncos: The Perfect Fit

As it turns out, the Broncos were the perfect fit for the city of Denver. They played with the same kind of wild, untamed spirit that the people of Denver loved so much. They were fierce, they were free, and they were fun to watch. And they still are, even all these years later.

So, the next time you're watching a Broncos game, remember this story. Remember how they got their name, and how that name has shaped the team into what it is today. It's a pretty cool story, isn't it? Just like the Broncos themselves.
