Why 1989 Donruss, You Ask?

Well, let me tell you, 1989 was a big year for baseball cards. It was the era of the 'Junk Wax' boom, where cards were as common as, well, wax. But amidst this sea of affordability, some cards stood out, like the Rack Pack from Donruss.

These weren't your ordinary packs. They were like the VIP section of baseball cards, offering a chance at rare, high-numbered cards. And boy, did they deliver!

Meet the Big Guns

First up, we have the Ken Griffey Jr. RC (Rookie Card). Griffey, the 'Kid', was a phenomenon, and his 1989 Donruss card is a symbol of that era. A mint condition one sold for a whopping $900,000 in 2021. That's right, nine hundred thousand dollars for a card that was once just a piece of wax!

Next, we have the Derek Jeter RC. The Captain's 1989 Donruss card is another gem from this set. A mint condition one sold for $660,000 in 2020. Now, imagine finding that in a pack you bought for a buck back in the day. Talk about a retirement plan!
